Pursuing Research in Science after Class 12

CEBS, Mumbai and NICER, Bhubaneshwar

The Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), Government of India and the University of Mumbai, Vidyanagari Campus jointly launched, in September 2007, a Centre for Excellence in Basic Sciences (CBS) offering high-quality undergraduate teaching embedded in a postgraduate and research environment. CBS offers a five-year Integrated M.Sc. program in the Basic Sciences for students who have completed 10+2 schooling or its equivalent. Both NISER and UM-DAE CEBS were set up by Department of Atomic Energy, Government of India in 2007

Some of the best teachers from University of Mumbai departments and University of Mumbai-affiliated colleges, and from proximate partner institutions likeBhabha Atomic Research Centre, Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, IIT Bombay and the Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education, have helped design courses and are participating in teaching activities of the Centre in the areas of physics, life sciences, mathematics, chemistry.

NISER established by the Department of Atomic Energy, strives to become a citadel for basic sciences and allied subjects in terms of teaching and research. Its vision includes imparting high-quality science education in a vibrant academic ambiance to the bright, motivated students, by a faculty of distinguished scientists and teachers. The curriculum is amply supported by a strong visitor's programme by accomplished scientists from India and abroad

IISER - Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research

The Government of India, through the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), has established seven Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research (IISER). These institutes are located in Bhopal, Berhampur, Mohali, Pune, Kolkata, Thiruvanantapuram and Tirupati.

It is a research-intensive teaching institute. Our faculty and students investigate questions in science that lie beyond the boundaries of conventional thinking. The whole ambience is very academic with high energy levels to pursue top quality research.

IISc - Indian Institute of Science

Established in 1909, IISc is India’s leading institution of advanced education and research in the sciences and in engineering. From its beginnings, IISc has laid equal emphasis on fundamental investigations and the solution of practical problems in such a setting.

IISc’s reputation and preeminence ensures that it attracts the best of young faculty members trained in the best laboratories around the world. Our faculty, numbering around 500, carries out research across 42 departments in most areas of the basic and applied sciences, publishing vigorously in premier journals.

The Institute’s commitment to excellence is not restricted to the high calibre of its faculty. With some of the best students in the country seeking entry into IISc, the Institute ensures that the students who are admitted are exposed to a strong research training programme and pursue cutting edge research.
